Thank you. The problem for me is, this should be very easy and very basic. It's not really niche. Follow path has been around forever. I worked in CGI in the 90s, and Fusion feels like a convoluted, half-baked effects suite from that era (except that they weren't for the most part node-based, as far as I remember), that desperately needs a rewrite from the ground up but will never get it, for reasons. Fusion may be very powerful, but there are so many pitfalls (bugs, inconsistencies) and (to me) an entirely unintuitive approach to data input, that I don't feel like revisiting those nightmares again. I'll leave it to the young'uns. Which makes me sad, because I'd love to putter with it. But I have a lot less years left to waste than you guys, and I'd rather spend them editing stories than tearing my hair out over a path effect on a map... <3

there is also a big bug I've found which makes the program totally crash and having to force quitting it, It appears when you use the Record mode trying to animate an object through a path , right-clicking the path and select Record from the polygon polyline path options contextual menu, before adding a part for the path by drawing append mode the program totally crashes

OK insane that you actually have run into the same-ish issue that I had. I might have to try your sPolyline technique in the future. TLDR: Using a similar technique I noticed lag when scrubbing in Fusion and after rendering the arrow position broke in scene cuts. Let me explain. I have previously created an ad in After Effects that had the same kind of line + arrow graphic following features of recorded video footage. The footage was mostly large city buildings with sharp corners and the camera moves in 3D space, which shifts the perspective and thus changes the placements of each point of the curve in relation to each other. The full video has multiple different scenes where the line + arrow run around. In AE you need trackers for each point and then an in-built plugin to connect the polyline points to these trackers. The arrow was connected to the end of the line with some trick I can't remember anymore. I've been working with Fusion for long enough to try the same trick there for another iteration of the ad. I found a couple of tutorials that had two techniques I could combine - to create individual connectable points from the polyline and also connect the arrow to the end of the polyline. I had to use a paint-node to get a functioning polyline in terms of publishing the points and connecting the arrow to the length parameter. At this point everything works. Kind of. The line follows the tracker points (and thus the features of the video footage) and the arrow follows the draw on effect of the line. But there's a weird lag. If I scrub the fusion timeline back and forth fast, the arrow loses connection with the end and snaps into the correct position when I stop scrubbing. At this point I thought that "no worries, it's just a bit of weird lag when scrubbing but when playing it works - let's render it out!" After render the arrow does weird things. The video has cuts with the scene changes. BEFORE and AFTER each cut the arrow jumps a random amount of pixels into a random direction for 1-2 frames after which it snaps back to the correct position. This is unacceptable. Also, the positions change after each render and it's not consistent. I tried to fix it with saver and loader nodes thinking that Fusion doesn't communicate with the render engine fast enough or something. Nothing worked. The final workaround that helped me complete the video was to create clip extensions for each scene and render the scenes out separately as ProRes. In each of these extended scenes the arrow jumped around at the start and at the end but I could cut the jumps out for the final edit. If you got this far, you must be very interested in Fusion <3.

I don't know what they changed in 19 b4, but up until now text scrollers were always a bit stuttery. I don't know if that was due to resolution line rounding errors, like with credits? We discussed this with Mr Alex Tech on the Resolve Live Tour in Berlin and now with the new beta it suddenly runs smoothly.

Perfect, just what I'm looking for

Had the same issue like a year ago... maybe two... whatever. Had tracked something and wanted another thing to follow the tracked thing. First and last frames perfect, everything between getting more offset the closer it got to the middle of the comp. Here's what I eventually learned. It's tied to the ratio of the comp. Try it on a square comp. Should work. Did for me at least. Anyways... since the original footage was 1920x1080, I first expanded it (with a crop tool) so it was 1920x1920, did the tracking and everything and that was that. The final result on the Edit page got "cropped" back naturally to 1920x1080 by the timeline having that size. If I would have used a saver in Fusion I'd add a second crop tool to crop it all back to 1920x1080.

Found the solution to this. Ctrl-A, Delete , Ctrl-S, Ctrl-Q. Go buy a birthday cake for yourself (but have them write "happy retirement, Marty" . Eat the entire thing. Take a nap.

The Reason for this, as i understand it, is say you make a straight line polygon, then you add a point right next to the End point, and you *drag* it all the way right next to the First point. This creates a sort of "worm-hole" effect in the Distance, such that now the 90%~ "length" is between the 1st and middle point, and the last 10% is between the 2nd and last, even though visibly, 2nd to last portion is Longer it seems adding another point makes fusion correct the Length definitions at each point, which proves this can be fixed if that was simply done at each Point Repositioning. Once when i was ranting about this issue, not knowing the cause of it, someone in the discord pointed out that making the polygon and the other asset on a perfect Square resolution fixes this entirely (though i don't remember if changing the points' positions afterwards still messes it up) EDIT: ok no its more so a discrepancy between path Length and path Displacement lol but square resolution still fixes it

You’re so much fun to watch… And you’re so animated… As a suggestion and you would get a lot more followers… Start teaching fusion from absolute scratch. If you can see it from a beginners point of view. Such as what the hell is publishing and how does it work. do a series of tutorials for absolute beginners and you Would Get a huge following

Fusion is such a cluster fuck I can’t imagine why anybody would want to use it when there is after effects in the world. I could’ve done what you just did and after effects in about one minute, effortlessly… No publishing whatever the hell that means… And after effects just makes sense. It’s fun to watch you work infusion but it also makes me laugh at it’s difficulty. Especially word graphics… Fusion absolutely sucks at graphics and after effects is the absolute king of graphics. Or is my friends and I like to call it…ConFusion!

The very niche issue I have with path is when putting a PNG at the end of the line (instead of a letter) and selecting "Merge" in "Apply Mode" (because the default "Color" makes my PNG's colours faded), I get a black box (the edge of the PNG) around my image. I tried the "Image Scaling" trick but, it didn't work. I did find another (better?) way to add my PNG but, that was very frustrating.

A bug I wish they would fix is per word animations. I've tried making some macros to copy some final cut titles, but there's no per word way with anime curves, which really sucks. There are some workarounds, but they suck and don't do the job really well. I would love if you could look into this as well

Yes, I noticed that in my custom arrow macro a year or so ago. So, I added a `head_offset` property to my macro to compensate for this issue (it seems to appear when there are some curves, as you mentioned). It requires having multiple keyframes to make it seamless, but does not require too many of them. So, it's a manageable hack. I will try this technique next.

That's wild, man! Neat trick, removing the path and republishing it to bring it over to the Text node... Also, I love stuff like this. With such a large code base, there's bound to be bugs. But finding them and finding the workaround? Love it!

Not a niche at all, this is so useful for motion graphics, there arent many videos on modifiers, im always in the fusion page and there arent many video on fusion or motion graphics, so this is very refreshing, even if its not a tutorial in the first place😅

My usual response to seeing this bug was "my client isn't paying me enough to care about this detail."

So basic rule of thumb as it stands is plan your polygon path and leader first, publish and link all respective values and DO NOT TOUCH AFTER... I've also discovered a bug with the Surface Tracker where you have to do all your tracking before adding any assets or transformations to your comp, else Resolve will completely shut down if you try to edit anything afterwards. Crazy stuff...

Inspired by what you make, I’m really trying to learn and explore the power of the Fusion page recently, but have encountered an issue with my macros that I can’t figure out how to fix. As a simple example, let’s say I have a rectangle that starts at zoom size 0.25 and then grows to 0.5 over 10 frames using a key frame in a transform node. When I export the macro I want to give the user control of the final zoom size at the 10 frame key frame point, but I don’t want them to have control of the 0.25 starting zoom size. Currently when I export a macro with this zoom control available, any changes made by the user in the inspector will instead Zoom the 0.25 start point and then continue to the 0.5 zoom key frame point, 10 frames into the effect. Am I missing something obvious? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Best wishes. Joel.
